Ravencon, Iconicon, Tidewater Comic Con, Megacon.... Oh My!

In the mists of madness was a month full of exhibiting, cosplaying, all-in-all geeking out!

Here's my review of each of the conventions that dEMONCH attended this past May! I wanted to give my honest opinion about what I like about the shows (things that I thought were awesome) and things I didn't like about them.

Tidewater Comic-Con a 2day adventure in Virginia Beach, Va.

Featuring a more Western Style Comics, Scifi, & Anime fandoms. You can find an array of various characters from DC to Mavel, all sorts of Anime Characters, to some of your favorite Scifi Characters bustling about the exhibit halls and panels. Tidewater Comic-con (TWCC) had something for all ages, from face painting, to special guests, to gaming, and of course a Cosplay/Costume Contest.

I didn't really get to cosplay as I would have like too , but I still wanted to dress up. So, I gabbed one of the many dresses I've made, threw on a wig, and dabbled with some make-ups. Have I told you how much I love big proofy dresses! (I was mad exhausted from the week prior)

This was dEMONCH's second year exhibiting at TWCC. As an Exhibitor, dEMONCH did rather well, not as well as our first year at TWCC but still good! The space was easily accessible, and we were able to play with the layout of our given space. The staff was on point this year! They were friendly and helpful (a really cute gentleman helped us find our table) and came by to check on us throughout the show. The Event was well advertised (We even found TWCC Posters in Richmond) but I think due to the weather and other events happening that same weekend, it didn't bring as much of the traffic that it could have (damn rainy weather).

I give TWCC ⋆⋆⋆⋆ stars out of five.

Yes! dEMONCH will hopefully be apart of TWCC 2017 and can't wait to see what they will have in store for next year!

Megacon a 4day adventure in Orlando, Fl.

This Convention always seemed to create a whole new world... where cosplayers flock the halls in a endless sea of characters from every type of fandom rather it's anime, Marvel, Dc, Scifi, Steampunk, Lolita, Gothic, Crossovers, to whatever the imagination can create.

A little backstory, I've been attending this convention since 2008 as an attendee, my friend Soda got me into this convention (It's our once a year get-together. It's also how I got started into cosplaying). I was super excited for this years show! Not only do I get to hang out with my sister from another mother but I get to also showcase and sell my work.

Along with being apart of Artist Alley, I decided to cosplay Luna (Her Human Form) and Queen Serenity (a couple people thought I was Neo-Queen Serenity) from Sailor Moon. It was very exciting bring these two characters from one of my favorite series to life and being recognized as them.

Shout out to ARDA WIGS

Thank You!! Thank you!!!! For helping fix my wig dilemma!!! ❤❤❤❤ Long story short my newly bought extension got all tangled in my attempt to split it apart to create the iconic bun and pigtail look, needless to say Arda was there to rescue me! One of the amazing ladies helped comb out my mess and show me how to keep it in check! ❤ Check out their fantastic wigs and other products here.

Side Note:

(Luna's Wig is from Gothic Lolita Wigs Duchess Elodie Collection Black Plum Mix (00051) and the Buns are from Arda's Hairpin Classic in Dark Purple (CL-022). My Serenity Wig is Arda's Chibi Classic and Classic Extension Long Clip in Silver (CL-082)... Styled by me)

As my mom manned my table (She's the lovely lady most dEMONCH fans meet first), I enjoyed a couple hours walking (well till my feet started to hate me) around the cosplay area and the outside halls, meeting with fellow cosplayers, stopping to take pictures, and just having a great time. You can check out more pictures on my cosplay page here.

As an Exhibitor, I was sadly disappointed. The show that I spent the most amount of time prepping for, from debating over display set-up to making sure I had plenty of stock to offer. What I thought would be an amazing show (selling wise), instead made about the same as a local 1 or 2 day show in the four day time span of Megacon. If it wasn't for a couple other artists mentioning the over abundance of Artists and other fellow exhibitors talking about it through online forums I follow, I honestly thought that people just weren't really into my work. (I was starting to get a complex. I knew from previous conventions that people enjoyed my work, but when people didn't show the same enthusiasm, I started to wonder... I'm a shitty artist??? ).

Besides the over saturation of Artists, one of the biggest complaints I have is the space not being easily accessible, there was no room between exhibitor tables or behind the allotted 5x6 space for exhibitors to access to get to and from their tables. Lucky for dEMONCH, we were placed at the end, but every now and then someone had to walk through our space in order to get to theirs (I even heard that people had to crawl under their table to get to and from).

The staff for the most part was generally nice and willing to help, but due to the lack of information didn't really know the where's and what's.

The event itself was very well advertised and had a built large fanbase over the years, but unfortunately I've been hearing a lot of negative feedback from attendees, and artists alike from this pass show, especially since this was the first year under FanExpo. To be honest, I have mixed feelings about this convention, I'm not sure if dEMONCH will be attending as an exhibitor next year. I'm very hesitant especially with all the rumors of decreasing table size to adding in more artists.

I give Megacon ⋆⋆ stars out of five.

I have high hopes for that everything will work out for the better, because I'm a huge fan of this show.

Those who Attended or Exhibited these conventions, What where your thoughts and ratings?? (Please No Bashing)

dEMONCH is really excited for around two of Conventions! With Anime Mid-Atlantic (AMA) right-around-the-corner, Asheville Anime Regional at the end of July, and our second year at Fayetteville Comic-Con in October!
